The London premiere of ‘Get Back Up’ will happen on Saturday, July 11th at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October will perform an abbreviated ‘I’m An Open Book’ story telling and acoustic performance. He will then introduce the UK premiere of the film and undertake a Q&A afterwards.
The documentary Get Back Up is the story of one man’s struggle with the inevitable clash of stardom, depression, and drugs. Justin Furstenfeld survived the odds and avoided becoming the stereotypical dead Rockstar.
Furstenfeld, the mastermind behind Blue October, has battled depression and addiction for most of his adult life. Through it, he has earned a Platinum album and singles, built a legion of loyal fans, toured the world, married, become a father, divorced, fought for custody, and entered a downward spiral that should have killed him.
This is not a story about a band or a musician. This is a story about the daily struggles with which millions around the world suffer: living the reality of depression, anxiety, and drugs. The self inflicted damage a person can do to themselves, their families, their friends and their career. It’s the story of one man picking himself up and venturing down a road to leading an exemplary life as a father, husband, brother, son, business partner, and musician.
Set amongst the backdrop of a thrilling up and down ride from obscurity to fame and back down, this powerful, poetic, and passionate film inspires and provides hope that no matter how deep the depression or dark the demons, we can all Get Back Up.
The band are also delighted to flag the release of their forthcoming album This Is What I Live For which will be released in September 2020, which will be preceded by the single Oh My My which has already returned the band to the top of the tree Stateside, being named as the No.1 most added track at US alternative radio. For now though, Justin’s eyes are on the film.
“I never thought I’d have the opportunity to be a part of something so special and important,” said Justin Furstenfeld, Blue October. “Recovery saved my life. Not only have I found the peace and confidence that I was searching for, but I’ve been given the chance to share my experience, strength and hope with the world.”
