Virgin Music recording artists, X Ambassadors today release their latest single “Friend For Life” feat. Medium Build as a part of their ‘(Eg)’ collaborative singles project.
The lyrics of “Friend For Life” celebrate the little things that make up a friendship with a distorted guitar driven sing-along. The DIY sound of the song harkens back to a time when
X Ambassadors were writing songs in a basement with their best friends. The verses recall “…spending our money on CDs, weed, and cigarettes” only for gratitude to spill over on the riff-y refrain, “I just want to thank you for being my Friend For Life.”
Not straying from the theme of the song, the video, released today, shows X Ambassadors delivering an impassioned performance alongside Medium Build as they laugh and jump around in a garage. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of “Friend For Life” after X Ambassadors viral preview on TikTok was released, amassing over 1.7MM views.
X Ambassadors lead singer Sam Nelson says, “I was introduced to Medium Build through a song called ‘Come On Back,’ which seemed to be about a reunion of two old friends. The way he wrote about friendship just struck a chord with me. It resonated because of issues I’ve had with my friends. We have such a deep bond as a band—we’re family.” He continues, “After COVID and time passing so quickly, we’re all realizing how unique it is to be in a band that you consider to be family. Casey and I are actually related by blood, but Adam is as much of a brother as Casey is. Friendship isn’t spoken of enough and it’s a topic we want to hear more about in music, so we wrote the song.”
They recently released their first single as a part of their new deal with Virgin Music and previous addition to ‘(Eg)’, “Happy People” feat. Teddy Swims & Jac Ross, on May 24.
“Friend For Life” continues the band’s ‘(Eg)’ collaborative singles project with their new label, which highlights the band’s songwriting/producing abilities.
“Friend For Life” is the latest successful song release from X Ambassadors since 2015 when they organically attracted an audience on their full-length debut, VHS. That project bowed in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and eventually earned a platinum certification paving the way for Orion [2019] and The Beautiful Liar [2021].
Along the way, their dynamic catalog continued to grow, highlighted by huge songs such as the quadruple-platinum “Unsteady,” triple-platinum “Renegades,” and platinum “Jungle” [with Jamie N Commons], “Home” [with Machine Gun Kelly & Bebe Rexha], and more.
X Ambassadors music course through popular culture with their high-profile collabs, including the triple-platinum “Sucker for Pain” [with Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, & Ty Dolla $ign] from Suicide Squad: The Album. They have done sold out tours in hallowed venues around the world and graced the bills of top festivals. In 2021, the first iteration of (Eg) yielded “ultraviolet.tragedies” [feat. Terrell Hines], “skip.that.party” [with Jensen McRae], and “torture” [with Earl St. Clair].
X Ambassadors are currently on a summer tour in Europe before heading back to North America to perform Tour dates below.
