British band WEAK13 have released a brand new science fiction themed music video for their song Cameras Are Everywhere taken from the debut album ‘They Live’ and available to view on YouTube. Produced, filmed and directed by co-songwriters Nick J Townsend and Wesley Smith.
On making the Cameras Are Everywhere music video frontman & guitarist Nick J Townsend stated: “The goal was to create a music video which played out like an episode of Black Mirror or The Outer Limits but wrap everything up in only four minutes and do it without using any dialogue at all. It was a challenge too to make it sync visually with the music and as the song itself only contains a total of five words we had to ensure the audience had plenty of cinematic stimulation. Lyrically it was an artistic decision to only have the words Cameras are everywhere; they stare in the song; we figured what else needs to be said? Subject wise it’s a reflection of modern technological times. The more times the words are repeated the creepier the tune becomes; what seems, at first, like a basic statement becomes a feeling of horror or paranoia as the tune progresses”.
The main protagonist in the music video is played by the front woman of fellow Birmingham & Black Country band Ed Strong.
WEAK13 bassist and co-songwriter Wesley Smith explained “We had an amazing actress cast for Cameras Are Everywhere known as Emily Abbiss; me and Nick both saw her perform live on stage in a band called Ed Strong and we had to ask her if she would consider being the main protagonist for the music video; thankfully she agreed and said yes without hesitation. Filming was a lot of fun; bands should work together more I think; having another band’s singer in our music video was an unusual move for us but for the type of story we wanted to tell the role had to be filled by a strong female and this is one amazing woman”.
