TARMAC is Triggerfinger’s sixth studio album, written and recorded in Antwerp, Belgium and Los Angeles, California by Ruben Block and Mario Goossens with the kind help and assistance of Mitchell Froom
Over the last 20 years, Triggerfinger have built a glowing reputation across Europe and Canada as one of the hardest working and sharpest dressed rock bands around. Now back with the new album ‘TARMAC’, the band showcase more of their effortlessly tight and addictive songwriting on a body of work which delivers some of their best and most accessible work to date.
With their self-titled debut album (2004) and follow up What Grabs Ya (2008), the band introduced themselves to the European live circuit. All This Dancing Around (2010) was a first breakthrough that put the band on the radar of a broader audience, and since By Absence of the Sun (2014) and Colossus (2016) they have become a mainstay on the European rock scene, with the last two going platinum and gold in their home turf Benelux respectively. An impromptu cover of the Lykke Li song I Follow Rivers became a major hit across Europe in 2012, and in the middle of their relentless touring they were invited to open for many great rock acts such as Thin Lizzy, Within Temptation, Placebo, Muse, and The Rolling Stones in 2013 and 2014.
After the campaign in support of their latest Colossus album, the band decided it was time for a break, time to focus on personal projects. Monsieur Paul recorded music under different noms de guerre such as Lowrider. Mario set up SLOPER with fellow drum veteran Cesar Zuiderwijk of Golden Earring, and released two studio albums, Pulverise (2021, Suburban) and Changing Colours (2024, Warner). Ruben Block released a solo full length album Looking to Glide (2022, PIAS). Paul then decided to call it quits and left the band in 2023. As an homage, the very last club show at Brussels Ancienne Belgique was recorded and released as Faders Up 3 Live in Brussels, out on HUFTER. Unfortunately, Paul passed away in October 2025 after struggling with health issues for over a year. Mario and Ruben decided to move on and prepare a new episode for their beloved musical vehicle.
Now that everyone seems to shake off the dust from their suits, let us see what the future brings. Clearly, there is the hunger again. Hunger to be on stage, to play music together, hunger to feel those first two chords hitting the right notes and feel the magic that appears, the magic that makes three individuals melt together and become one. A union of like minded spirits, a craving to perform. Triggerfinger built their name and reputation on stage, and the yearning for the love of a live audience, the yearning that pushes the creative forces to reinvent themselves and explore new horizons. This craving has resulted in new music.
These fellas have had a musical career for more than 20 years now. To a certain degree they have changed in the way they are as musicians. They have grown, evolved, grown towards each other, and slightly matured over the years, just like they have become different humans over that period of time. Adrenaline still kicks in when the curtain calls and tension rises when the challenge tickles the senses to once again get up on stage and team up with the crowd, looking to lock drums, electric guitars and bass to support and carry the vocals into another authentic, exciting live performance.
