Country-pop powerhouse Tori Darke has announced her new EP Who I Am slated for release November 6th. Pre-save here.
There are songs you write in the middle of something, and songs you only understand once you’re far enough away from it. For Darke, her forthcoming five-track EP Who I Am is both. Written across almost a decade, the songs trace different versions of Darke – from a young woman trying to hold herself together after the end of a long relationship, to the confident artist and woman releasing them now. But Who I Am isn’t a breakup record in the traditional sense. It’s a collection Darke says she couldn’t have released while she was still living the experiences behind it.
“I didn’t want to put songs out because I was angry or because I wanted somebody to hear them,” she explains. “Now they can become other people’s songs.”
That distance is what gives Who I Am its perspective.
The EP announcement follows the release of her infectious new breakup anthem, ‘Who I Am (Without You)‘. Co-written in Nashville alongside Australian country star Morgan Evans, the hook-filled track transforms heartbreak into an empowering journey of self-discovery and celebrates the unexpected freedom that can come from starting over and discovering that the person you become after heartbreak might just be the best version of yourself yet.
Darke recently brought that message to the UK for her debut appearance at Country Calling Festival on August 16, where she headlined the Homestead Stage and later joined fellow Australian country artist James Johnston on the main stage for a special performance of ‘SAME SONGS’. The moment saw two Australian artists, performing in the UK, come together to sing a song celebrating the idea that, no matter where you are from, we are all connected by the same music. A fitting reminder that country music is no longer confined to its American roots, but has grown into a truly global genre and community.
Her UK debut follows a huge year for Darke, including performances at CMA Fest and Country Jam in the US, as well as the release of her latest single, ‘Prettiest Wreck’ a post-breakup anthem co-written with fellow Australians, The Wolfe Brothers. Watch the music video here.
Darke is now back in Australia for a run of festival dates, including a recent appearance at Gympie Music Muster in August and an upcoming performance at the iconic Deni Ute Muster in October. She has also just been announced as part of the 2027 CMC Rocks lineup, taking place in March next year, further cementing her presence within Australia’s country music scene.
