Swedish trio Then Comes Silence have long been held in high regard for a sound that is a modern and unique take on classic goth and post-punk. They have released a new single entitled ‘Remaker Redeemer’ today (11th September), the second song to be lifted from ‘Requiem Ballroom’, their new studio album out on 20th November.
The album is presented as a diptych of two halves that combine to form the overall work, with part one (Requiem) representing darkness and part two (Ballroom) the light. ‘Remaker Redeemer’ introduces the latter, the band explaining that the song “is about new life, being reborn with old sins washed away. A kind of cleansing, a fresh start, and the feeling of beginning again. The choice of instruments and sounds on this track was also a way to explore something a bit different this time.”
A video for ‘Remaker Redeemer’ has been directed by Damon Zurawski of Future Legends Films and can be seen HERE. The song follows ‘Judgement Day’, which was issued in early August and also had a video directed by Zurawski. See it HERE.
THEN COMES SILENCE | ON ‘REQUIEM BALLROOM’
‘Requiem Ballroom’ is a diptych. Two halves. One soul. Two panels forming a single work. Between them there is no middle ground. Everything exists in contrast. Only opposites. Light or dark, red or blue, black or white, right or left. The listener is invited to choose a side in this duality. Which side do you identify with?
The first door opens onto a funeral. Candles flicker in the dark as the procession moves forward. It invites you to witness the symbolic death of something familiar, raising questions about closure and farewell. Is this the final bow? But, every ending conceals the seed of a beginning.
Turn the record and the darkness cracks. Morning breaks through. It opens the curtains to a resurrection. What decayed in Requiem blossoms in Ballroom. The shadows retreat and light floods the room. In that sense, Requiem Ballroom is more than an album. It is a dialogue between opposing forces. It is a game, an experiment, and it’s bloody serious. A farewell and a resurrection unfolding simultaneously. Two faces staring at each other across the void.

‘Requiem Ballroom’ is the follow-up to ‘Trickery’, the magnificent seventh full-length album by Then Comes Silence released in 2024. Collecting accolades galore, the UK’s Classic Rock magazine described it as “the post-punk influence of Bauhaus or Joy Division offset by an ’80s windblown, cinematic sense of drama presented with silky production and confidence.” Vive Le Rock concurred, remarking on its “huge, spectral sound that cascades the post-punk genres seamlessly whilst delivering a unique and compelling sound that is as captivatingly gripping as it is intense.”
