Today, Swim Deep have released their new album There’s A Big Star Outside’. Their fourth album, it has been produced by musical soulmate Bill Ryder-Jones who they recorded the album with in The Wirral and in Brussels. The record is released by Submarine Cat Records, their first long-player on the label.

‘There’s A Big Star Outside’ is deeply personal, lyrically mature and musically fascinating, as the band’s melodic gifts come to the fore with warm, enveloping hooks and a new level of intimacy. With their most raw, affective and mature work to date, now stand on the precipice of something familiar but wholly new: a Swim Deep record that steps into the confident, experienced territory that you just can’t claim when you’re a wide-eyed twenty-something. Frontman Austin Williams talks about the album –

“I feel like there’s unfinished business. I feel like I have a duty to our fans and to whatever Swim Deep is – to the entity of it. Sometimes I think, ‘I could have gotten this far in a company in this time’ or ‘I could have done this or that’. Maybe I’ve sacrificed a lot. But this is what I want to do: I want to look back on my life and see Swim Deep records.”

Comeback single ‘How Many Love Songs Have Died In Vegas?’ was the ideal re-introduction whilst follow-up ‘First Song’ demonstrated their creative rebirth was for real as it’s gauzy shoegaze bled through the swaying melodies. The majestic, swooning ‘Robin’ and the string-drenched ‘Very Heaven’ are musically expansive whilst tracks such as ‘Don’t Make Me A Stranger’ have a lush, hazy quality that mixes in a sense of closeness. It adds up to Swim Deep’s most complete album to date.
