Cosmic Norse Americana is the new compilation album from Norway’s own cosmic time travelers, Sugarfoot. Featuring nine tracks handpicked by the band, the collection also includes a brand-new recording of ‘Time Will Show the Wiser.’
Originally written by Emitt Rhodes and first released in 1967 by his band The Merry-Go-Round, ‘Time Will Show the Wiser’ was later covered by Fairport Convention in 1968. Sugarfoot’s rendition pays tribute to both versions, blending their signature sound with a deep appreciation for this hidden gem of 60s pop.
When asked about the track, Sugarfoot’s Øyvind Holm had this to say:
“To me, a masterfully crafted pop tune is one where an irresistible melody fuses with clever vocal harmonies and a short, sweet arrangement. If a song feels complete after just two and a half minutes, that’s a consummate pop song. Emitt Rhodes had a real gift for writing those. He deserves far more recognition than he gets. In fact, his first solo album might just be the best McCartney album that McCartney never released.”
This single features two versions of the song: the studio recording, which will appear on the upcoming album, and a live performance captured at The Roundhouse in London on May 31, recorded while supporting The Waterboys on their UK tour.
