Storming In!

Expect didgeridoo when they play with Alter Bridge

New Zealand hard rock/alternative metal act Like A Storm are returning for their fourth tour of Europe/UK. This time with heavy-weights Alter Bridge (with support from Volbeat and Gojira).

Says bassist Kent Brooks, “From the very first time we came over, we knew that this was a special part of the world to come and play. Rock and Metal are definitely not dead here! People wear their hearts on their sleeves. We’ve never had a bad show here, so we’re very stoked to be back.”

Like A Storm is coming back with a brand new single, “Pure Evil,” which will be accompanied by a video featuring the band playing in the abandoned Methodist Church in the U.S. “We actually filmed in a place considered to be one of America’s most dangerous cities. We had to hire armed police officers as security – that was a different experience, coming from New Zealand!” says Kent.

The song itself is a seven minute opus, combining metal drumming and riffage with choirs, electronic music, and of course Like A Storm’s trademark didgeridoo.

“From all of our touring here we got turned onto a lot of heavier music coming out of Europe/Scandanavia like Dimmu Borgir & Gojira,”  says Kent. “We’ve always loved writing music that’s layered and epic, and wanted to keep pushing that.”

This new musical direction caught the attention of Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti, who commented, “‘Pure Evil’ is totally killer! This song will be so badass live.” Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy also voiced his enthusiasm for the song’s progressive influences, “Sounds awesome! Really cool arrangement!”.

The band also drew on experience from their relentless global tour schedule. “After playing festivals to crowds like Download and Graspop, we started approaching music in terms of what we could envision seas of people rocking out to in unison,“ says Kent.

“They’re hardcore,” says Myles Kennedy, of Like A Storm’s touring work ethic. “I see them show up onstage every night and give it 10,000%… They have definitely proved that they deserve every bit of success that they have coming to them.”

Lyrically the song marks a turning point in Like A Storm’s writing, addressing the dark side of religious and political power. Says guitarist Matt Brooks, “The hypocrisy and exploitation that pervade the highest levels of church and government are just sickening. The people making the rules are breaking them more than anyone. “Pure Evil” is about calling these people out, making them face the truth about who they are and what they have done.”
