The song featuring Linda Pardee from The Chelsea Curve on powerhouse vocals. Garret and Linda sing the tale of two lovers, yearning to re-unite but just aren’t quite sure they know if it will work. Watch here.”Sweetheart” is currently the #1 song on the Radio Indie Alliance charts for the week of February 12, 2024 Garret discusses the new song; “Sweetheart” is one of the two tracks on the E.P. that my late friend and Red on Red label owner, Justine Covault, got to hear before she died in June of 2023 (ROOM WITH A VU, Vol. 1 was initially supposed to come out on Red in Red in September of 2023). I remember playing the mix for her in her car outside my house after a rehearsal we had just completed for an Asa Brebner memorial show last summer. I will never forget the smile on her face as she listened to the track (Justine had no idea I would collaborate with Linda). She was really pumped about releasing a song with two roster artists working together. Red on Red was a family in that way. All of the artists worked together to bring the label forward. This song would be the sonic manifestation of that spirit, and we had big plans to make it the centerpiece of the E.P. on release, plans which will now happen through The Sound Cove. I think it’s some of my best work – Linda’s performance is fantastic, and David Minehan’s production prowess shines. 2024 is shaping up to be a busy year for Speedfossil’s Garret Vandermolen. Having joined legendary power pop garage rockers, The Plimsouls as bassist and backing vocals, he will be doing a U.S. and Canadian tour this summer as part of the Totally Tubular Festival. The tour starts on June 25 in Seattle, WA, targeting 20 markets, and features not only the Plimsouls but also Thomas Dolby, The Thompson Twins, Modern English, The Romantics, Bow Wow Wow, Tommy Tutone, and Men Without Hats. In addition to the Plimsouls tour, Garret will be releasing a new Speedfossil EP, ROOM WITH A VU, VOL 1, on 4/12/24 via the Sonic Escort label. “Sweetheart”, the 2nd single off Speedfossil’s forthcoming new E.P. will be released vai The Sound Cove, a digital singles label out of Boston, founded by Vandermolen in late 2023 after the tragic death of Red on Red label owner Justine Covault (Speedfossil was signed to Red on Red). The Sound Cove will release new singles in 2024 from FIreking (featuring Anthony Kaczynski of the Magnetic Fields, Figures on a Beach), Eric Barlow, Me In Capris, and the Plimsouls, among others.
Besides touring and releasing records, Garret also has a busy roster of live performances leading up to the Plimsouls tour, including Speedfossil’s first-ever U.K. shows in Liverpool at the Cavern Club on May 28 and May 29 as part of the International Pop Overthrow Festival. Speedfossil’s next performance will be on March 1 at The Square Root in Roslindale, MA.
