Omaha-born vocalist and songwriter Skeez has released his new single, “Smoke Break,” today via Orinda, GoDigital Music’s Nashville-based country imprint. A laid-back ode to knowing when it’s time to step away from the chaos, the track captures the feeling of working too hard, having one too many, and needing a moment to catch your breath. “Smoke Break” marks Skeez’s second release with Orinda, following “Cannonball,” released September 4.
Built around smooth vocals, classic country production elements, and pop-leaning undertones, “Smoke Break” turns a familiar night-out into an easygoing anthem for anyone who’s ever needed to step outside and regroup. Skeez sings, “world keeps spinning in the room right now / the only thing I’m thinking I can do right now is take it out / slow it down / light it up / turn it back around,” before arriving at the song’s simple conclusion: “I think I need a smoke break / And after that I’ll be okay.”
“To keep it short and sweet, this song is about having one too many and needing to take a step outside to gather yourself,” Skeez shares. “On a deeper level, I’ve had some of my favorite conversations and made some of my closest friends over a quick smoke break outside of the chaos of a bar or party. But this one is for the good-time-havers!”
Skeez has developed a sound rooted in country songwriting while incorporating elements of pop and contemporary R&B, all brought to life by his dynamic vocals and larger-than-life personality. At his core, Skeez is a performer who wants people to have a good time. He doesn’t take himself, or life, too seriously, and his music reflects that — finding humor in everyday experiences and turning them into songs that feel immediate, relatable, and fun.
His career has taken him from the studio to major country stages, including a 2022 run as direct support for Mike. on the “Not My First Rodeo Tour,” followed by their collaboration “why not us?” In 2024, he joined Dustin Lynch’s “Killed the Cowboy Tour,” further establishing himself within the country community.
