Already nearing ‘legend’ status himself in the music city of Liverpool, people-powered singer-songwriter, Jamie Webster nods to the heroes of the past in an evocative live performance, titled Dockumentary, filmed amidst the unregenerated remnants of the city’s industrial past. Sitting between crumbling warehouses on the quayside of the Salisbury Dock, Webster hooked up with drummer, Jim Sharrock, for five special songs that purposely hark back to the Liverpool’s working-class past and musical heritage.
Filmed before the COVID-19 crisis hit, during the colder months of late winter, Webster’s short film is reminiscent of The La’s most famous, live TV performance, running through their biggest, international hit, There She Goes, at the famous Albert Dock. The La’s hit the screens of local viewers in the North West of England, tuning in to Granada Reports in 1990, playing in front of the dramatic backdrop of the Mersey at twilight.
The release of the full Dockumentary comes after Webster teased live performances from the docks of his popular singles Living For Yesterday and Something’s Gotta Give over recent weeks. The film’s track listing is completed with low-key, yet impassioned run-throughs of unreleased album tracks We Get By and The Joker, plus a cover of The La’s own Timeless Melody.
Humbled by comparisons to bands like both The La’s and Shack, Webster’s ‘heart on his sleeve’ approach to songwriting is reflected in an unashamed tribute, not only to a legendary moment in Liverpool music history, but to the history of the city itself as a place of industry, honest toil and a gateway to the world’s open seas.
The emergence of the full performance comes at the start of release week of his debut album, We Get By, available from Fri 21 August 2020 on Modern Sky.

Webster’s spirited live shows are famed for their electric, festival-like atmospheres with an energetic camaraderie between performer and audience crackling at close quarters. Completed by a full band, Webster now counts as comrades Lightning Seeds members Jim Sharrock (drums) and Tim Cunningham (bass) alongside Danny Murphy (guitars), who also backs Mick Head as a member of his Red Elastic Band.
Listed by the Liverpool Echo journalists as the 11th most influential person shaping the city’s modern culture in their 2020 Power List, Webster’s sights have been firmly trained on the rest of the UK and beyond, with his last, sell out tour in February 2020 taking in both Dublin and London.
A run of popular singles has supercharged the 26-year old ex-electrician’s popularity ahead of the release of his debut album. With lyrics rooted in Webster’s own working-class upbringing and personal experiences, the ex-electrician sings the hopes of anyone who still dreams of a better tomorrow.
Webster originally grew in renown for providing new soundtracks to Liverpool Football Club’s rising fortunes, playing to 60,000 fans attending the 2019 Champions League Final in Madrid and performing around the world, as far afield as Australia and Dubai.
