“Out of the shadows, we’ll be coming home” is more it seems, than the hook for the new Collateral single. Rather you would argue it is the sound of a band that wants to take back what might have been theirs.
For a while back there, Angelo Tristan and the boys were the ones to watch, the boys most likely, now they have returned after a bit of a regroup with “Glass Sky” and it’s a case of the more things change the more they…..well, change actually.
Everything that was great about Collateral, the swagger, the ambition, the hooks, the rock star looks, is all still there, but Collateral 2024 are not quite the Bon Jovi clones they used to be instead there is a much more modern crunch to things here.
Perhaps because it’s produced by Dan Weller (Those Damn Crows, Enter Shikari, Monster Truck, Kris Barras, Holding Absence, Bury Tomorrow),whatever this is not classic rock, this is the rock of today.
A fresh outlook, yes, but there’s a moment when the solo hits and guitarist Louis Malagodi goes for it and there’ll be no arena big enough in his mind and that’s the point, here they are mixing the old but with the new, and are all the better for it.
Collateral have always been a fabulous band but this? Well this, he’s a step up from before in every way.
“Glass Sky” is the sound of a band that wants to smash the glass ceiling and really make a breakthrough.
