Following the late 2019 announcement of ‘Foundations’, the Leicester-based five-piece alternative rock band Our City Fires have unleashed ‘Runaways’, the first video single to be drawn from the band’s forthcoming EP release which is now available to preorder via iTunes, with a t-shirt bundle available here.

Available to stream and purchase now, ‘Runaways’ offers the first taste of Our City Fires’ forthcoming EP release, which will arrive on 28th February 2020. Drawing inspiration from the likes of from the likes of You Me at Six, Foo Fighters, Incubus and Paramore, The band’s single burns brightly with funky verse riffs and a catchy vocal hook from Vocalist Danny Richardson, cascading seamlessly into a grand, powerful singalong chorus section.

As outlined by the band, ‘Runaways’ details the story of a girl in her teens running away from home towards a life she thinks will be better. Written from the perspective of the same girl – now grown up and living with regret – the lyrical content explores how life has really turned out for her. Missing her family and now wishing to regain lost years, the girl seeks reconciliation to ease the guilt of leaving her family.

Commenting on the content of the single, Richardson states:

“‘Runaways’ is written as a warning of what can happen if you take the wrong path during those sensitive teen years. We all go through them, we all make mistakes and at the time it can feel like the most harrowing experience…but there’s always a chance to make things right. Running away from your problems may not be the best solution – as the subject of our latest single discovers. It takes strength to face them head on, but it’s important to be in a place where you are loved and supported. For many of us, that place is home.”

Having previously worked with producer Matt Grady (Don Broco, Deaf Havana, Architects) to create their self-titled debut EP in the year of their inception, Our City Fires’ have previously caught the attention of multiple radio stations across the UK, including BBC Introducing East Midlands. With ‘Foundations’, Our City Fires hope to deliver an even greater refinement of the band’s moreish blend of melodic rock. Taking their sound on the road to various locations across the UK, Our City Fires will soon embark on an early 2020 performance with Essex-based rock icons InMe in their hometown, plus a further tour with St Albans rockers Alexis Kings.

You can stream ‘Runaways’ now via Spotify. Preorders of the Foundations EP can be made via iTunes, with a t-shirt bundle available here. Our City Fires will be on tour soon.
