Californian rock collective BIG SCENIC NOWHERE premiere their new single “Blink Of An Eye”, featuring the stellar contribution from Chris Goss (Masters of Reality) on guitar and Per Wiberg (Kamchatka, ex-Opeth) on keys and organs. The collective formed by Bob Balch, Gary Arce, Tony Reed and Bill Stinson will release their new EP “Lavender Blues” this October 23rd on Heavy Psych Sounds.
Clocking in at nearly half an hour, new EP ‘Lavender Blues’ features special guest appearances from Per Wiberg (ex-Opeth) on synths and piano, Daniel Mongrain (Voivod) as well as Chris Goss (Masters Of Reality) on guitar. With a mellow and psychedelic attitude enveloping their desert soundscapes, the three tracks hold together with a progressive and old school inspiration that will blow any rock lover’s mind. All songs were mixed and mastered by Tony Reed, artwork was designed by Max Loeffler.
“This song features Chris Goss and Per Wiberg,” said Balch. “Chris cruised out on the third day of our session and we jammed four tunes all around 10 mins long. I played bass on one song. That song is ‘Blink Of An Eye.’ Chris Goss manned my pedal board and amp and I played Tony Reed’s bass rig. Gary Arce came up with the main riff and feel of the tune. Tony added guitars and vocals after getting inspiration from one of Per’s key melodies that were sent to us after the session. Per also ripped the solo at the end. This song has a Herbie Hancock meets Alice Cooper meets 70’s pop rock vibe to me. Tony Reed’s vocal hooks are insane! I still have to dig into some of the other Goss jams. He rules and we were super stoked to jam with him talk about gear and band.”
Listen to the EP’s 13-minute title track at this location. BIG SCENIC NOWHERE is the ambitious project merging the massive and fuzzy riffing of Bob Balch (Fu Manchu) with the atmospheric guitar lead of Gary Arce (Yawning Man), also featuring Tony Reed on bass, vocals, synths and guitar (Mos Generator) and Bill Stinson on drums (Yawning Man). In early 2020, the band released their debut album ‘Vision Beyond Horizon’, which also featured the likes of Mario Lalli, Alain Johannes, Nick Oliveri, Thomas V. Jäger among others. A combination of talents and a true creative force of nature, which sum of its parts created a brand of rock that is both transcending and uplifting all at once.
