Hassall has been living in Denmark for more than a decade and met singer songwriter Annekei through their local SGI-Buddhist group in Aarhus. Like everyone else, the Buddhist community has only been able to meet online and missed meeting in-person.
Hassall says. “The song is an encouragement to everyone I could only meet on the phone or computer screen. I wanted to remind them that we could overcome all the distance, emotional turmoil and problems that have been caused by Covid 19. As long as we can stick it out and support each other.”
‘Be The Light’ has a very different sound to anything Hassall has done previously, but it is a thing of rare beauty.
Annekei has lived in New York for many years, and also had a stint in Japan. She has worked with a number of artists including, Grammy award winning jazz guitarist Lee Ritenour.
‘Be The Light’ by the Orchid Room is an uplifting, inspirational song for our time.
John Hassall has released three albums with the Libertines – Up The Bracket (2002), The Libertines (2004) and Anthems For Doomed Youth (2015). One album with Yeti The Legend of Yeti Gonzales (2008) and one with his new band The April Rainers – Wheels To Idyll (2017). John will be touring the UK with The Libertines in November and December.
