Tomorrow`s Tigers is an Indie synth-rock band who comprise of Chris Punsalan (vocals / guitar), Autumn Proemm (vocals / synths), Luke Spicer (bass) and Bone Douglas (drums) who fuse 20th-century songwriting with 21st-century production. They release a five track EP `Next Of Nine` this month which follows on from last year’s self-titled debut extended play.

This five tracker opens with `Laika` which the band have said is based on a dream about reuniting with your childhood pet, and wistfully pines for a place where all pets can live forever. It`s a synthy animated melodic dance like earworm with some reflective lyrics and delightful vocal interplay between singers Chris and Autumn. We have a more introspective number with `Idea In Crisis` which mirrors the apprehension of aging and inevitable associated mortality. A magnetic rhythmic number which had a brief rapped vocal interaction and melodious synth fragments in the midsection and towards the end .

`Whenever It Hurts` is a pensive ballad like musing on love and the pain associated with a relationship breakdown. We have a few understated guitar solos on route during this brooding piece with vocals that appear to reflect the hurt experienced. There was a larger-than-life feel to the dreamy `So Much For Ourselves` which begins quietly with piano keys before gathering depth and a little pace as it evolves and grows before melting away.

The EP closes with SOS 99, a gentle almost tranquil instrumental which reflects a story about a stranded lone Astronaut creating music for himself as a dying act.

`Next Of Nine` to me displayed a kind of maturity for the band with some introspective and reflective numbers this time highlighting a wider style and vocals that are predominantly shared. It will be interesting to discover what else is to come from this quartet but in the meantime, we now have a further twenty minutes to submerge ourselves in.
