`Be Under No Illusion` is a phrase that indicates that you clearly see reality and are not being deceived by false hopes, assumptions, or wishful thinking. It`s also the title of the latest missive from SOLAR EYES the cosmic creation of Midlands duo Glenn Smyth and Sebastian Maynard Francis. The track has a rolling nigh on driving vibe with subtle “aah aah ahh” harmonies provided by Nadine Batchelor Hunt atop a hypnotic beat and is a real out there foot tapper. It takes a slight time out midway through before retaining its original groove laden psychedelic journey. It`s a magnetically absorbing listen that arrives just in time for a hot, hazy summer ahead.

There`s more of a reflective contemplative texture to `Sweet Angel` which has a steady rhythmic guiding drum beat cadence from Sebastian with Glenn`s emotive honey dripped vocals sprinkled atop. It`s one of those numbers that really seeps into your subconscious and will have you humming the tune for the rest of the day. I really loved the shook tambourine and soaring dreamy guitar riffs.

The final cut is `All Because of You` which I found was much more ethereal and dreamlike. It`s a reaffirmation of love, a reiteration of commitment and dedication. Its says probably what we all should about that someone special in our lives.

Solar Eyes have seen their music featured on renowned TV programmes including Match of the Day and Football Focus and have already laid down two albums with their self-titled debut ‘Solar Eyes’ and `Live Freaky! Die Freaky!` where the duo blended electronic dance music and psychedelic indie tunes.

The band create technicoloured tunes that stretch across acid-dipped sonic landscapes and blissed-out melodies that have drawn comparisons to Primal Scream and the Chemical Brothers.

The band will play a one-off hometown date at Birmingham Hare & Hounds on Saturday 27 June for Music Venues Trust Week and in my opinion it`ll be the feel good gig of the summer. Don`t miss out!!!
