You can get overly nostalgic about these things, but I do love a proper single. The kind we used to get in the 90s: a main track and a handful of extras that made the whole thing feel like a little event. Some of my favourite songs came from those releases.
So it’s cool to see that even in the Spotify era some things haven’t been completely ruined.
Russell Dickerson is reviving that spirit here with “Worth Your Wild,” a short, sun-kissed EP that feels like it’s designed to be enjoyed with the windows down and absolutely no worries about tomorrow.
The title track opens things up and sets the tone immediately. “Worth Your Wild” has the same vibe as an 80s cop show theme tune — bright, upbeat and full of fun rock ‘n’ roll energy. Originally released on his 2025 album, it still feels like the centrepiece here, all swagger and sunshine.
“B.O.A.T.” follows and the title alone tells you what sort of mood we’re in. It’s a clever spin on the whole G.O.A.T. thing, and the music matches the laid-back humour. Relaxed, summery pop that doesn’t try to be anything other than a good time.
The vibe continues with “2 Limes, 2 Coronas,” which might be the most carefree moment on the EP. The message is simple enough: forget about the chaos of the world for a few minutes and just enjoy yourself. And honestly, given everything going on right now, that’s not the worst idea.
“Spring Break” closes things off with something a little more reflective. It’s slower and more thoughtful, tapping into that uniquely American sense of nostalgia — memories of youth, sunshine and fleeting moments — but the feeling is universal enough for anyone to recognise.
Produced by Josh Kerr, the EP blends country, pop and just a hint of 80s rock swagger in a way that has become Dickerson’s trademark. It’s breezy, charming and completely unpretentious — the kind of release that knows exactly what it wants to be and never overthinks it.
Sometimes music doesn’t need to change the world. Sometimes it just needs to make you smile for a few minutes.
This does exactly that.
