REVIEW: MASON HILL – Mason Hill EP (2016)

A new EP from a hotly tipped  Scottish band – Bernard reckons the future is bright

Glasgow four piece Mason Hill will be a new name to most. They have been gigging around Scotland for the past couple of years and have recently released this, their debut EP.

Comprising Scott Allan Taylor (vocals/guitar), James Bird (guitar/vocals), Craig McTetridge (Drums) and Matthew Ward (bass), they have a real ear for a tune and in a world where Nickelback can sell millions, Mason Hill can look forward to a bright future.

‘Survive’,’ Your Memory’  and ‘Now You See Me’ are stadium style rockers with plenty of crunch and melodies that immediately catch the listener’s attention.

The last track is the ballad ‘Where I Belong’, which could do for them what ‘Still In Love With You’ did for Thin Lizzy. Producer Sandy Jones deserves credit for putting a real polish on the recordings and for a debut EP, this is very good indeed.
