REVIEW IN BRIEF: SILVERA – WORLD BEHIND DOORS

Published:

Denmark, all of a sudden, has a plethora of superb hard rock. The land of Volbeat (good enough for bonus points) and D A D has another band that’s aiming big.

Silvera’s second album opens with its title track. A statement of intent if ever there was and essentially, if the idea of Nickelback jamming with Alter Bridge sounds fun, then jump right into “Sane”.

Simon Krabbesmark and singer/guitarist Michael Krogh have a way of making the guitars seem huge, and there’s an energy to the likes of “Utopian” that crackles.

Of course there’s a ballad – there sort of has to be – and “Gone Too Far” would give Bon Jovi a Gold Disc, but for my money the four piece are better when they rock out, as on “Lifeline”, which might do a bit of unnecessary growling – as is the modern way  but is fair enough.

The fact is that US bands are already filling arenas with less than “Masquerade” and “Paternity” and the groove of “Same As Before” is made for arenas.

It’s also noticeable that down in the deep cuts there’s no let up. “D.I.D” underlines that, but it also benefits from the changes of pace that “Show Me How To Live” and “Betrayal” which sounds just a little darker – give.

Silvera can use their countrymen as an inspiration. It took Volbeat years to breakout of Northern Europe. They never stopped dreaming though, and with “World Behind Doors” then Silvera look ready to make their entrance.
