REVIEW: HELLBOUND HEARTS – FILM NOIR (2017)

Bernard runs the rule over the Yorks rockers debut full length

After several EP releases, ‘Film Noir’ is Yorkshire band Hellbound Hearts first full length album. Produced by Matt Ellis at Axis Studio the albums 10 tracks will appeal to Green Day and Foo Fighters fans but its also heavy enough to register with the Classic Rock legions.

Opening tracks ‘Suffering The Radio’ and ‘Broken Hearted’ are very commercial and set the tone for the rest of the album. Track three is ‘Poor Disguises’ and it’s one of the heaviest songs here. ‘The Light We Cannot See’ is the best song Dave Grohl didn’t write and that precedes ‘Still We Wait’, which starts off quietly before launching a riff that is pure Metallica. ‘Blood’ , ‘Wake Up’, ‘We Are All Alone’, Fortunes’ and ‘Silent Horror Movie’ complete the album and they are all great, combining plenty of alternative rock heaviness with sing-along choruses.

The Band should be really pleased with the end result of this debut. The songs are strong and the album rocks throughout. Most of the tracks could easily be singles in their own right and this is the sort of stuff that American radio in particular loves.

The album is released on the 7th April 2017.
