REVIEW : FULVETTA – SONGBIRD EP (2022)

Published:

Fulvetta are a Dublin-based alternative rock quartet consisting of vocalist and guitarist AJ Das, keyboardist Dylan French, bassist Grace MacDonnell and drummer Dylan Quinn. The band have a three track EP `Songbird` set for release this month.

`DYNASTY` opens this extended play with some vigorous but fairly restrained grungy guitar riffs and vocals kind of layered atop. As the number progresses you are lulled into a false sense of security or well being before all hell breaks loose and the track takes off at pace with some blistering chords and wailed vocals riding this compelling wave of controlled noise to its conclusion.

`If You Love Me` has a captivating dreaminess about it and bursts into life in little pockets throughout it`s quite introspective lifespan. This three tracker closes out with `Hemispheres` which again begins quietly before the bass takes hold of our hand and leads us along this raucous musical soundscape that ends with some delightful piano tinges.

There was so much to enjoy on `Songbirds` which appears to draw it`s influences from bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, The Smashing Pumpkins with hints towards The Deftones but that wouldn`t be giving due credit to this young band who have moulded their own sound from those previous pioneers.

This debut EP gives a suggestion of what`s to come from this talented outfit and I for one can`t wait to discover and hear more.
