REVIEW: BRACKISH – REAR VIEW EP (2024)

Published:

Brackish is four friends who have been playing together since they were teenagers, Connor Byrne (guitar, vocals), Nick Rosica (bass), Tim Fitzpatrick (guitar) and Zach Miller (drums). They release a three-track extended play this month which gives a flavour of the direction this band are taking.

`Threatening` is one hundred and eight seconds of blistering punk tinged not aggression but almost belligerence that seems to be challenging people who have a hidden agenda and a world that is pretty confusing. We retain that sense of power with `Lay Down` but there`s a more melodic texture. A number that seems to hint a somebody who is struggling but needs to find their own path through this difficult phase while you remain on the sideline if needed.

Title track `Rear View` closes out this release and is mid paced fairly uplifting melodious mellow offering that appears to refer to a realisation that has finally arrived, long after other have gained this understanding.

The `Rear View` EP is a fleeting but interesting taster of the direction that Brackish are heading and on the strength of this i`m sure it`ll be a rewarding adjustment.
