I’ll be honest—let’s make no bones about it—I’ve been in an unrequited love affair with Kylie Minogue since 1987. According to Wikipedia, she left Neighbours in July 1988.

That means I haven’t watched Neighbours in 37 years.

It also means that, with the greatest respect to Alan Fletcher, I have zero knowledge of his 30-year stint on the show.

The flipside? When Fletcher releases music, I have no preconceptions. I can judge it purely on whether it’s any good. So, unlike a soap opera, let’s skip the cliffhanger: Let’s Talk About Love is very good indeed.

Produced by Lachlan Bryan and Damian Cafarella (Lachlan Bryan and The Wildes), the four tracks here are smart, polished, and deeply enjoyable.

“Memories In The Bank” opens with a gentle banjo strum that’s pure ’60s nostalgia, every note drenched in emotion.

“Marie” is gorgeous. The piano swells around confessions, skeletons in the cupboard, self-doubt, and deep love. Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not—but it’s brilliant.

“Table Service” channels a latter-day country Elvis, and Fletcher’s cracked voice is perfect for a song about what we might call love for sale.

“Back To School” feels wholesome on the surface, old-school vibes matching the words, though Fletcher can’t resist a cheeky “let’s use biology to get what we need.” Still, in 2025, a little empathy and love is never out of fashion.

Love comes in all shades—but sometimes it’s the love of something you simply have to do.

These four songs radiate warmth. Nobody’s acting. This is real.
