Ahead of Elvis Costello’s My Aim Is True (49th Anniversary Edition) 5-CD box set release on October 2nd, the previously unreleased ‘I Turn Around’ (Hope & Anchor Studio) is out now. Listen to the song HERE.
The first track off the set’s second disc, called The Blue Print, ‘I Turn Around’ (Hope & Anchor Studio) is an example of how several of Costello’s early compositions, recorded around the time of My Aim Is True, would evolve into other songs released over his career.
Recorded solo at Hope & Anchor Studio in early 1976 with Dave Robinson, the future co-founder of Stiff Records, ’I Turn Around’ was never released in its original form. But the chorus would appear, years later, as a B-side on the more experimental and opulent Imperial Bedroom. “Anyone who has heard that peppy toe-tapper will be surprised to find that the entire title refrain had first served as the chorus of an entirely different story, written 19 years earlier,” says Costello in the box set liner notes.
