New album “A Bit Of Pottery” from Deckchair Poets is released on CD through Angel Air / Store For Music [Cat No SJPCD517]. Deckchair Poets are loosely helmed by Lynden Williams who also performs in the sister band Jerusalem, and also feature members like Geoff Downes [Asia and Yes] and Nick D’Virgilio [Spock’s Beard]. “A Bit Of Pottery” was the third prog rock album from this self-described “balmy bunch of dream weavers, who’ll sprinkle diamonds in your ears and paint rainbows in your mind”.
The album is divided into four parts, the tracklisting may reveal some of the inspiration behind the record, which took three years to complete.
The line-up of Deckchair Poets is a constantly evolving rollcall of celestial barrel rollers and Shangri-Larian astral-plane-loop-the-loopers, who all ply their wares in a range of other musical entities too… This album features the trio above and also, Ollie Hannifan, guitars & mandolin [Mister Kanish, Synaesthesia, Mamma Mia], Dave Meros, bass guitar [Spock’s Beard, Eric Burdon, Iron Butterfly]; Rachael Hawnt, vocals [Cosmograf, The Beautiful Secret, Great Scott!]; Sue Lord, violin & viola [The Stringbeans Quartet, Tracy Chapman Band];and Rob Aubrey, percussion Big Big Train, IQ, Threshold]..
The album contains beautifully, brilliantly elegantly, extravagantly played music with a sense of fun, but also a sense of purpose, by this revolving cast of talented artists. “A Bit Of Pottery”: it’s a bit of a cracker, indeed [referencing the artwork] a smashing racquet!
