PIGEON’S TREAT

Published:

After returning earlier this year to unveil their triumphant comeback outings “Lovers Come And Lovers Go” and “Falling To Pieces“, The Pigeon Detectives continue the support for their long-awaited sixth LP ‘TV Show’ with the anthemic new single Summer Girl.

Capturing more of that euphoric indie-rock energy they have projected so far, “Summer Girl” stands as one of the more personal offerings on their upcoming collection. Inspired by the difficult lockdown situation frontman Matt Bowman and his wife found themselves in, the soaring textures of this new effort cover a far darker tale within the lyrics.

Adding about the inspiration behind “Summer Girl”, Bowman explained, “I wrote this song about me and my wife’s lock down experience. She’d recently had a kidney transplant and couldn’t leave the house for fear of death! For a year the closest she came to the outside world was smoking out of the window of our house (blowing out the window) and I really don’t know how she coped. The situation also took a toll on me and at times I felt like I couldn’t breathe, resorting to periods of self-medicating to cope, which is covered in the second verse of the song. The main line of the chorus “Summer Girl” is my shoutout to my wife as she hadn’t left the house for over 12 months and then plucked up the courage to go to Leeds Festival (in the summer!) and start to rebuild her confidence and enjoy life again. The Euphoric “Summer Girl” section at the end is tribute to how proud I was of her for surviving lock down and she really was my Summer Girl that year.”

Produced by the renowned Rich Turvey (Blossoms, The Coral, Oscar Lang), their new album ‘TV Show’ looks to cement a rebirth within the band’s own legacy. After storming the stage at countless festivals in the summer of 2022, The Pigeon Detectives quickly became one of the more talked about names on the circuit once again, feeding the public’s need for anthemic indie-rock tunes after years of isolation and social distancing.

Speaking about the new album, they said, “Making music together for all these years has been the greatest gift of our lives. This album gives a nod to every step we have taken on the amazing journey we have been on as five scruffy friends from Rothwell, whilst also driving our sound to new, exciting areas. Above all though it is full of absolute bangers and we just can’t wait for everyone to hear it!”
