WORLD AWAY recalls Newton’s thoughts of home whilst being abroad:

“This is one of two songs on the album that were written on an Australian trip where I was writing with Joel Quartermain. We hadn’t met before, it was all via recommendation, and I’m very glad we did. It was near the end of the trip and the idea of returning home was growing stronger the closer it came to becoming a reality. It’s about feeling as close as it’s possible to feel to someone, while also being as far away as possible whilst still being on the same planet. As you can probably tell when listening to it, I had a huge amount of fun producing this track with Darren Poole. The drums were my favourite part of the process – I love playing drums – and the few days I spent on the rhythm track were some of the best memories of making this album”.

Released on 20 August and available to pre-order now, the new album saw Newton Faulkner taking a different approach to recording during recent restrictions:

“This record was made during the strangest of global times, which presented huge challenges. Without these challenges, the record would not have been the same. Everyone involved, from the producers to the players, had to think outside the box and work in new, strange and exciting ways. I thank them all for their hard work. I hope they’re all as proud of this record as I am.”

INTERFERENCE (OF LIGHT) will be released on vinyl, CD and digital formats, each featuring different track lists, as Newton explains.

“The way we listen to music has changed dramatically in the time I’ve been making music and, for me, each medium has a different purpose and requires a different approach. Interludes, which played a huge part in Hand Built by Robots, make no sense being streamed on an online playlist but work amazingly on a CD, and vinyl is a different experience again. So, I’ve decided to package this album differently for each format: streaming sites will get a 17-track album with no interludes; the CD will be 17 tracks plus interludes for a smoother flow; and the vinyl will be 11 tracks curated to work on one disc with the best possible flow from one side to the other and the best possible sound.”
