| Defects reveal their new single, ‘Where Did I Go Wrong,’ taken from their upcoming album, Artificial Icons — produced by Jim Pinder (Sleep Token, Bring Me the Horizon) — due 16 October via Mascot Records. The tour will kick off on 8 September at 1865 in Southampton and will call through Nottingham (Rescue Rooms), Manchester (Rebellion), Birmingham (O2 Institute3), Leeds (Boom) and finish in London on 13 September at The Underworld. Tickets are available HERE. Artificial Icons fizzes with anger, frustration, and the instinct to survive. These songs aren’t just stories; they confront addiction, unstable circumstances, failing systems, and fractured relationships. ‘Where Did I Go Wrong’ captures a deep sense of helplessness, reflecting on difficult periods, unexpected support, and the way personal struggles can ultimately pull people apart. Talking about the song, Maue says, “I wrote this about an old friend I tried to help. That helpless, painful feeling when someone drifts away, and you can’t fix it. It hit me hard. There’s guilt, regret, and hope all tangled together. I kept asking myself what went wrong, even when I knew there was no clear answer.” This follows the release of one of the album’s standout moments, the dystopian single ‘Signs’ featuring Matt Heafy, which places the listener in a war-torn setting. “I want to write songs that matter. To make people think,” he affirms. People are dying. This needs to be addressed. It’s about looking for meaning and trying to find a place to belong. There’s frustration, but also determination, even when the world feels like it’s crumbling. I’m so excited that this one features Matt.” The singles they have already dropped from the album grapple with emotions and the world around us, through the socio-political ‘Artificial Icons,’ the confrontation with blind faith and false hope on ‘Heresy’, whilst ‘All For Nothing’ is aimed inwards. Their touring might has been flexed, seeing them sweep across Europe with Trivium, Northlane, Of Mice and Men, Orbit Culture, and Funeral for a Friend, as well as hit the festivals hard over the last couple of years: Download, Slam Dunk (UK), Mystic (Poland), Rock Im Park, Rock Am Ring, Impericon, Rockharz, Summer Breeze (Germany), Rock For People (Czechia), Jera On Air (Netherlands), Graspop, and Parkpop (Belgium). Artificial Icons goes deeper than before, tethering itself to profound life experiences. 2026 offers Defects a bright light. Their September UK tour with Allegaeon and GOROD will give their fans the first chance to soak up the new material in a live setting, up close and personal.
