Back Row, the new single from the Americana duo Roswell Road, is due for release on November 28th. This track is taken from their highly anticipated debut album, Rebel Joy, which is scheduled for release in March 2026.
Produced by acclaimed songwriters and producers The Dunwells, Back Row is an upbeat track that rejects hustle culture and the relentless pressure of modern life to be constantly productive. The duo wrote this song as a reminder, both for themselves and for listeners, to slow down, enjoy the journey, and occasionally step off the treadmill to take a seat in the “back row” of life.
Jasmine Watkiss and Zoë Wren formed Roswell Road after a chance meeting in a bustling market square in Cambridgeshire. Their musical chemistry was instant, and they have been singing and writing songs together ever since. The London-based multi-instrumentalists combine close harmonies with candid storytelling, drawing on experiences ranging from mental health issues to family love and real-life activist adventures at sea.
Speaking about the songwriting process, Zoë shares, “I spent a couple of years living between London and a small town in Switzerland, travelling back and forth almost every month. In London, I felt overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of people rushing around, whereas in Switzerland, I could stop and take a breath. This prompted me to reflect on why we wear ourselves down trying to keep up with some ideal of a modern, productive lifestyle rather than taking the time to enjoy ourselves.”
Roswell Road’s sound, which draws comparisons to artists like First Aid Kit and Fleetwood Mac, has earnt them recognition across the globe. After winning the Purbeck Rising competition in their first year as a band, their debut EP was awarded Fatea EP of the Year, and they also won the Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Competition. With sold-out performances at London’s Green Note and appearances at festivals across Europe, including Costa Festival in Ibiza and a showcase at MiCannes in France, Roswell Road are grabbing attention wherever they go. The duo performed at Your Roots Are Showing in Ireland in 2025 and has a forthcoming official showcase at Folk Alliance International in New Orleans in January 2026. They have toured Germany and Canada, shared the stage with artists such as Catherine McGrath, John Smith, and Dea Matrona, and performed at various festivals, including the Cambridge and Shrewsbury Folk Festivals, as well as the Fête de la Musique in Geneva.
Roswell Road is currently crowdfunding the production of Rebel Joy through their Kickstarter campaign. After unexpectedly reaching their goal in the first 16 hours they have since raised it to fund exciting additions including a full-band launch show and music video.
