“Honest” is the first single from Laura Evans’ highly anticipated second album, blending blues and pop to offer a glimpse into her evolving sound. Co-written and produced by Ian Barter (Paloma Faith, Amy Winehouse, Dermot Kennedy), the track showcases Laura’s distinct vocals, a powerful chorus, moody verses, and guitar work reminiscent of John Mayer. With nearly 3 million streams and BBC Radio 2 daytime playlist support in 2024, Honest marks a bold new chapter for Laura, leaning into fresh pop textures while staying true to her blues roots.
Speaking about the writing process, Laura said:
“I’d booked a one-day writing session with my producer Ian at his studio in Reading and we worked so well together that I ended up staying for 3 days and we wrote 4 songs, “Honest” was the first song we wrote. The melody and lyrics just fell out for this one, we wrote it in the morning and recorded my vocals in the afternoon, the vocal take we recorded that day ended up being the final take we used”
She continues: “I wanted to write something different from all my previous releases, which is always a challenge. Making this second album has been about pushing boundaries, vocally and stylistically, exploring poppier sounds I love”
Laura’s long-awaited 12-track second studio album is set for release in October 2024, with more singles dropping in the coming months. Ahead of the album launch, she’ll join American guitar legend Robben Ford for four dates on his UK tour in May, before embarking on her own full-band UK headline tour in November.
