Hot on the heels of a long run of sell-out European dates for her Freedom Tour, Sari Schorr returns to the studio this week to start recording a new album, which will be released this autumn.
The new album release represents a literal coming together of Sari’s twin existence as a live performer and a recording artist. The dozen songs penned for the new album were written during Sari’s ‘Freedom Tour’ and the new material will be recorded over two studio sessions in the coming months, as Sari takes breaks from her relentless touring schedule – which will feature major festival appearances in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Poland and Romania.
In between recording the new album, Sari will also be supporting film icon, TV star and singer-songwriter Kiefer Sutherland for his band’s ‘So Full Of Love’ tour. For this run of 17 European and UK summer dates, Sari will be joined by FM’s guitar legend Jim Kirkpatrick for the full run of dates. The summer tour represents the first time Kiefer and Sari have toured together and the combination is already going down well – with tickets selling quickly.
Sari’s new album follows the internationally acclaimed ‘Never Say Never’ which, five years since release, has proven to be an album with remarkable long-term resonance. The album was widely acclaimed across the rock and blues community, garnering 10/10 reviews, album of the month accolades and attracting international radio play-listings and festival headline invitations. The album powered eight tours, including this year’s ‘Freedom Tour’ and the material culminated in a run of awards and nominations, including Live Act of the Year in 2022 and a nomination for Best International Artist in 2023.
Sari comments: “I never imagined when I released ‘Never Say Never’ that it would have such a life of its own. That said, it is time for new music. The songs I have written for my new album build on my first two releases, but the new material is also freer, more powerful and more expansive. I put a lot of that down to the influence of touring on the creative process. I have written songs as I have toured and during the Freedom Tour I wanted to take time to absorb the places I visited and the people that I met.
“After years of lockdown and polarity in politics, there is a truth and a freedom from living life out of a suitcase. One can learn that despite the boundaries and divisions we see on our screens, in truth we as people have more in common than divides us. Touring reaffirms the timeless strength and positivity of the human spirit and I have wanted to learn lessons about people and life from the road and these experiences have shaped the music I have written. I am so looking forward to joining Kiefer on tour this summer and that may well inspire even more songs. I’m writing every day at the moment.”
In addition to her new studio album, Sari has also been working on a new collaborative recording project Procol Harum legend Robin Trower. Robin asked Sari to work with him on some new songs after first hearing her voice. More details on the forthcoming Trower/Schorr release will follow later this summer.
So when can the new album songs be heard? Sari comments: “For an album inspired by life on the road, I will be performing a number of new songs during my summer dates with Kiefer, a tour I’m really looking forward to. It seems only fitting that the music fans that keep the live music scene alive and vibrant are the first people to hear my new material. Songs inspired by the road will be played first on the road – full circle.”
