Malice K is a New York-based project helmed by visual artist and songwriter Alex Konschuh, who was born and raised in Olympia, Washington, suffered homelessness and has overcome addiction. Following a stint living in Los Angeles, where he delved further into his music making and became a member of the artist collective Death Proof Inc., a trip to New York funded by a prospective label resulted in him simply never leaving the city. He has released two mini albums or eps with `Harm Or Heck` and `Clean Up On Aisle Heaven` and releases his first full length album `Avanti` this week. After a show at the Green Man festival last weekend, he arrived in the UK`s second city.
First up were local outfit Jazzcat who are influenced by bands such as such as Her`s, Mac Demarco, and Title Fight. The band shared a well-received thirty minutes of dreamy, thoughtful alternative indie with numbers such as `Tea and Coffee` and `Robyn` with a new song shared towards the end that had a heavier vibe. After breaking a guitar string, the band sadly ended the show for me in quite a petulant manner.

We had a bit of a delay before the show started as Alex seemed unhappy at the few people who had remained to catch his set. He headed outside to round a few up before sharing a twenty-five-minute set that included numbers such as `Back Into It`, `Beautiful People`, `Changes`,` Cherry` and `Every Day` with a couple of numbers from the latest release `Avanti` which i`m sure included `Radio` but it really seemed like his heart wasn`t into it. The band left the stage, but Alex sat down and shared a couple of acoustic numbers before thanking those who`d turned up to see him.
A strange night to be honest and I appreciate the frustration an artist must feel after travelling so far to play to so few but It really doesn`t help to take those frustrations out on those that did make the effort to come along.
