LENA GOES FLYING

Published:

The Airport, new single by Faroese-Canadian artist Lena Anderssen, is out world-wide in May via Songcrafter Music.

Following recent radio favourite Aimee, with support on BBC Radio Scotland and an Artist of The Week feature on BBC Radio Ulster, The Airport takes you on a journey from the sorrow of separation to the anticipation of being reunited.

The third single from Lena’s forthcoming 6th album was recorded in Los Angeles with the legendary English recording engineer, Geoff Emerick, known for his pioneering work with The Beatles on albums like Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. Lena’s album, State of the Land, drops on 3rd September 2021, and is the last full album Emerick worked on before his untimely death.

Rich in melody and harmony, The Airport tips its hat to the sonic landscape of 60’s and 70’s pop with a 30-piece string orchestra and lush horns augmenting Lena’s characteristically stylish vocal and a band including drummer Matt Chamberlain (Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Adele) and pianist Matt Rollings (Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Mary Chapin Carpenter).

Following recent radio favourite Aimee, with support on BBC Radio Scotland and an Artist of The Week feature on BBC Radio Ulster, The Airport takes you on a journey from the sorrow of separation to the anticipation of being reunited. The subject of saying goodbyes – or as in this song, not saying goodbye, but “see you again” – is a recurrent theme in Lena’s writing, much shaped by her own life as a constant traveller since her teenage years when moving from Canada to the remote Faroe Islands with her mother and three siblings.

Mixed by Grammy nominated mix engineer Marc Daniel Nelson and mastered by Eric Boulanger and Jett Galindo at The Bakery in Los Angeles, State of the Land will be yet another landmark step in Lena’s unwavering musical journey from being discovered in her early twenties while singing to herself waiting tables at a coffee shop in the Faroese capital, Torshavn, to playing international tours, supporting the likes of Roxy Music, Beth Hart and Xavier Rudd, drawing press comparisons with KT Tunstall, Tift Merritt and even Joni herself, and having her songs feature in major TV series like Scrubs, Felicity and Nikita.
