For the first time since 2016, four members of Super Furry Animals, reconstituted as the sonically adventurous, harmonic pop x bug-eyed rave quartet, Das Koolies will take to the motorways of England, Scotland and Wales on a tour of five major cities. Kicking things off in their own front room by returning to Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff on Wed 24 January 2024, the band’s first tour is announced at the same time as they reveal a collaboration with legendary DJ and producer, Krust.
The first steps onto the stage as the feted, much-rumoured, yet never-seen-in-the-flesh Das Koolies happened in October as the band celebrated the release of their debut album DK.01 with a short run of Rough Trade instore appearances, as well as their frenetic, awe-inspiring first 6 Music live session with Marc Riley. Witnesses to all performances reported high times and big beats, with the spirit of the band’s origins as early-90’s illegal-rave-hopping hoodlums raised from the past.
Bringing the Das Koolies hybrid of human and machine music to initially intimate venues before plans are unfurled for the rest of the year that follows, all confirmed 2024 Das Koolies DK.01 tour dates are as follows:
- Wed 24 Jan – Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach
- Thu 25 Jan – Manchester, YES Basement
- Fri 26 Jan – London, Moth Club
- Sun 28 Jan – Glasgow, King Tuts
- Sat 23 Mar – Bristol, Ritual Union
All tickets go on sale at 9am on Wed 22 November with all ticket links found at www.daskoolies.co.uk
| Blending so many of the experimental, aural dynamics that fans loved about Super Furry Animals with a new/old approach to borderless music making that threw back to their earliest days together in the fields and warehouses of the acid house scene, both the release of their debut EP, The Condemned and first album last year revealed Das Koolies as fire-in-belly studio alchemists. Indebted to myriad, similarly fearless music makers, the band has connected with legendary drum and bass producer, DJ Krust on two remixes of The Condemned. Heading to digital outlets on Fri 1 December, the DJ Krust’s vocal and instrumental remixes of EP title track strike through just one of Das Koolies’ many musical ambitions and are already going global, via white label distribution, into discerning compilers’ record boxes. Das Koolies’ statement on the project states: “DJ Krust was the soundtrack to many a Super Furry Animals tour… we danced laughed and sang to Warhead….took influence and ripped him off…therefore, it’s an honour and privilege to have him work his magic with us…in Krust we trust!” |
| Releasing equally uncompromising and bombastic, poignant and danceable singles including Best MIndf*ck Yet, Wired For Sound, Nuthin’ Sandwich, Out Of This World, Pain Down The Drain and A Ride, the DK.01 double-album release packed in archive material from once feared lost sessions, field recordings and a raft of sparking new ideas gathered by the band in clandestine recording sessions in their Cardiff Docks studio. Just the start of a new journey, Das Koolies will accompany ambitious 2024 live plans with more of the same from their sound factory in the Welsh capital. DK.01, hitting No.1 on the Official Indie Album Breakers Chart, was released in multiple physical formats, including Dinked collectors’ edition recycled coloured vinyl with bonus 7″, Bandcamp and Indies recycled coloured vinyl, black recycled double vinyl, CD, recycled cassette and digital.
