JOEY WIT @ SCRUFFY MURPHY`S, BIRMINGHAM, SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Published:

Joey Wit was born to be on stage and watching him just before his set tonight he was like a caged lion awaiting to be unleashed. The majority of tonight`s set, understandably was made up from his latest album `Rose Gold` which was released the day before this show.

First up was an older track with `Inside Out` from his `Eastern Standard` album before Joey and the band let loose with the blistering `Borrowed Time` from the latest release. The psychedelic tinged `Fake Paper` followed along with a favourite of mine `What Went Wrong` which really came to life, live.

The mid-section had some delightfully almost introspective tunes with a couple from `Rose Gold` with `A Point of no return` which had a reflected dreaminess about it and the ruminative `Leave It To Me` with another older track `Throwing Stones` slotted Inbetween.

The homestretch included new tracks such as `Heavy Crown` and `Fire Pilot` along with what seemed to be an unreleased track in `Talk Of The Town`

Joey Wit is an artist who has seemed to have flown under the radar so far but with this latest release hopefully this will change. For me it was great to finally hear numbers from `Rose Gold` in the flesh as i`ve lived with this latest release for the last few days.

The intimate audience who had taken the time to come out and support Joey and his band witnessed a superb night of reflective and more rock out numbers from this artist. This was the band`s debut show in England`s second city and I`m sure, on the strength of tonight`s performance he`ll be back soon.
