“I Wasn’t Thinking At All” is the lead single from the upcoming album by acclaimed Melbourne four-piece, Cold Irons Bound. As per their usual fare, it’s a hook-heavy instant classic that effortlessly straddles rock and Americana, and both laments and celebrates the idea of setting your brain to autopilot.

Fitting in easily between the rootsy alternate tunings of Americana and the heart of a scruffy rock ‘n’ roll bar band, Melbourne four-piece Cold Irons Bound recall the best low-slung, distorted twang of the last fifty years. Influenced by a mix of classic indie rock (The Church, REM, The Replacements) and Americana (Dylan, Young, The Jayhawks), the band conjures a sound akin to Tom Petty jamming with Teenage Fanclub.
Although the earthy sensibility of their previous releases remains firmly in their DNA, “I Wasn’t Thinking At All” sees the band rediscover their love of twelve string chime. With the keys of Joe Cope (Big Smoke, The Hello Morning) added to the mix, the ambition and scope of the songwriting and arrangements is deftly realised on their new record.
Chasing songs still has Cold Irons Bound as wide-eyed as ever and they’ve come to learn that the hunt can be as beguiling as the catch. With a refreshed sound and a sack of new songs, great things are expected from the band in 2023.
Cold Irons Bound join Golden Robot Records for the release of their third record later this year.
