While we’d love to say that South Wales four-piece’s latest release ‘Hook’ is inspired by their time in lockdown, the plan was always to share it with the world this spring. Events may have conspired against them, but the band is doing its best to plough on regardless with its 5th single release. With its loping, insistent bassline and explosively cathartic choruses, Hook has been a call and-response mainstay of the Sweet Ignitions live set for quite a while, so making it their next release seemed like a no-brainer.

‘Hook’ follows a varied slate of releases (available via all the usual streaming platforms) that have picked up plays on BBC Radio Wales, Kerrang! Radio and across the pond on LA scene legend Rodney Bingenheimer’s SiriusXM show Rodney on the Rock (plus a host of international online stations). Before the world ground to a halt, the band had also been busy with gigs across Wales and the South West of England, including an acoustic support slot with Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell and playing fellow South Wales heroes Pretty Vicious’ sold out farewell gig in Cardiff.

Formed in late 2017 Sweet Ignitions blend the fuzzed-up fury of acts like Fu Manchu, Monster Magnet and Jawbox with Crosby, Stills and Nash’s ear for a killer harmony. The four-piece from Abergavenny in South Wales never met an overdrive pedal that they didn’t like, but balance their twin-guitar, feedback-drenched sound with melodies that hit just as hard as the riffs.
