Fresh from his collaboration with the original reunited Alice Cooper band and ahead of his upcoming European tour, singer, songwriter, and glam rock sensation Gyasi {Jah-see} is releasing a new single, trading his favorite instrument, the guitar, for the piano. “Apple Tree” is a Brit glitter rock-inspired track from an artist who brings back glorious androgyny and art rock to the modern world.
“‘Apple Tree’ is the result of writing on piano as opposed to my usual way of writing on guitar, Gyasi reveals. “I was looking for some new types of songs for this record and I wanted something that was more sparse and open ended on the verses and then had a groove on the chorus. We initially tracked it one way and then I ended up keeping the verses but totally rewriting the chorus and rebuilding the song. I had the title Apple Tree written down for a while and it just felt like musically this would fit so I used that title as a jumping off point for a bit of a nostalgic love song. Sometimes you have to let go of expectations and just venture into the musical void and see what happens.”

Gyasi seems in many ways to come from another planet, and being raised in the woods of a West Virginia holler might as well be another planet in this day and age. His parents bought him a guitar at a local flea market when he was six years old and he still hasn’t gotten rid of the fleas, or the guitar. He approaches his music as an all-encompassing art piece, using fashion, storytelling, and his guitar to create a world for his music. Inspired by a wide range of art and culture both past and present, his work is fueled by an undeniable passion to create music that brings rock-n-roll into the 21st century. Every show is an intense and unpredictable performance with a theatricality that personifies every song, carried by his magnetic persona of the glittery rock star. With thunderous riffs, masterful guitar work, and songs that celebrate self-realization, with cues from Lou Reed and David Bowie, Gyasi is taking the essence of theatrical rock-n-roll and adding a new voice to it. Gyasi is a modern rock artist like no other.
Gyasi’s new single “Apple Tree” drops September 26th on all digital / streaming platforms. His recent studio album Here Comes The Good Part is out now on vinyl, CD and DSPs via Alive Naturalsound Records. Click here to order the limited edition Splatter Vinyl.
