Since Papaya Tree‘s conception almost three years ago, the six-piece outfit has left no stone unturned, no state untouched and nobody alone along their journey. Refining their ever-changing but forever unorthodox sound and influenced by their history as Jazz students, indie contemporary producers and morticians, they’ve just released their new single “Out In The Wash” which premiered on Triple J Unearthed TOPS program.

A blend of 80’s inspired synth, sauntering bass lines and a wistful chorus inspired by Cleaners From Venus, REM and Paul Kelly, “Out In The Wash”, marks a more mellow departure from their punchy ‘kick in the brass’ 2019 single “Covered In Weeds“.
The band’s latest eccentric departure was recorded at The Parliament Studios in Sydney by their long term producer Phan Sjarif (Middle Kids) and mastered by Darren Ziesing (RÜFÜS DU SOL).

“Out in the wash is a song inspired by unrequited love lost; set in a inner-city laundromat, a close friend of the band met a girl while they were both waiting for their clothes to dry. They went for dinner, kissed, packed up their laundry and then never saw each other again, despite the boy returning to the laundry every week at the same time.” – Papaya Tree

The band (consisting of Lee McDermott, Jack Johnston, Zac Olsen, Alistair Hayes, Jordan Tulinsky, and Joe Plunkett) have built an audience around eclectic and unpredictable live performances including sold-out shows in Sydney (Waywards, World Bar Lansdowne Hotel), Melbourne (The Gasometer), and Perth (The Fremantle School of Arts).
Gaining praise from The Music, Music Feeds, Scenestr, The Loop and Tonedeaf alongside spot rotation on Triple J, Fbi and other tastemaker community radio stations across Australia, the band is expanding their ever-growing fanbase with a huge run of releases and shows into 2021.
