Give It A Whirl

Possibly the best band name this year

Holographic Slammer; the eagerly awaited sophomore album from Houstonian rockers Jody Seabody & The Whirls is out in November.

Rounding off what has been a stellar year for the Texan, label, Artificial Head Records Jody Seabody & The Whirls enter like a bouncing ball of energy; completely awash with color, emotion and a style as hard to pin down as the influences they split like egos across a remarkable nine song set. Touched by the bittersweet, lo-fi alt-pop of stripped back Nirvana (‘Two Atmospheres’), wasted on a hardcore workout of Black Flag (‘Charlemagne Pt. 1’) and fluent in the ways of ’70s psychedelic rock, the luminously titled Holographic Slammer follows on from 2012’s Summer Us and last year’s excellent Some Witch 7” (also released on Artificial Head).

Amplifying the vista even further with garage fuzz and unapologetic, lysergic meanderings the nine-minute ‘Grassman’ showcases some of the disordered mindsets at play through creeping Pink Floydian freakouts and lush, technical excess; all the while capturing brilliantly what the band does best. With an impressive live reputation on the Houston scene that has secured them numerous SXSW placements and coveted spots on the Free Press Summer Fest (2011 and 2012) Holographic Slammer by Jody Seabody & The Whirls will be released via Artificial Head Records on 10th November 2015.
