FLAMIN’ GROOVIES
‘Shake Some Action’ – 50th Anniversary UK Tour
“The Flamin’ Groovies may be the greatest rock and roll band to ever come out of San Francisco.” – Rolling Stone Magazine
Legendary San Francisco rock ‘n’ roll pioneers Flamin’ Groovies have announced a special run of UK dates this September to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their iconic power pop anthem and landmark album, Shake Some Action.
Originally formed in San Francisco in 1965 by guitarist and songwriter Cyril Jordan alongside vocalist Roy Loney, Flamin’ Groovies quickly became one of the most influential American rock bands of their era. Their first three albums – Supersnazz (1969), Flamingo (1970), and Teenage Head (1971) – established the group as underground rock ‘n’ roll heroes, blending British Invasion melodies with raw American rock energy.
Following Roy Loney’s departure in 1971, Chris Wilson joined the band and helped usher in the group’s celebrated power pop era. Between 1976 and 1979, Flamin’ Groovies released a trio of now-classic albums: Shake Some Action, Flamin’ Groovies Now, and Jumpin’ In The Night.
The title track Shake Some Action has since become one of the defining songs of the power pop genre and remains a timeless influence on generations of musicians.
In 1976, Flamin’ Groovies headlined London’s Roundhouse with support from Ramones and The Stranglers in what is now regarded as one of the key concerts that helped ignite the UK punk rock explosion.
Their acclaimed album Teenage Head was also featured in the celebrated 2006 book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
Fronted by founding member Cyril Jordan, the band’s forthcoming UK tour promises a rare opportunity for fans to experience one of rock music’s true cult legends performing songs from across their remarkable career, including classics from Shake Some Action.
