Hertfordshire, UK indie punk favourites THE SUBWAYS are pleased to reveal their new single  ‘Uncertain Joys’, which is backed by an AA side cover of ‘Love Me More’ by Mistki.

The A side ‘Uncertain Joys’ is the title track from their fifth studio album of the same name, which is out now via Alcopop! Records, and comes with an official video directed by Joe Gist and Blink Vivid Video.

Commenting on the new single, front man Billy Lunn said: “Written and recorded in only a day, ‘Uncertain Joys’ is about coming to terms with a break up, and wanting to be a good person in the process. Given the tumult of the lyrical content, we wanted to fuse genres (rock, hip-hop, synthwave, pop) whilst still managing to get everyone bouncing at live shows.”

“I wanted to create a video with an experimental narrative component to it,” explains director Joe Gist of the music video. “I felt that focusing on this trio of stories that encapsulate some of the universal struggles of romantic relationships was a great way of experimenting with some interesting visual ideas. Merging these stories with Billy’s vocal performance as he wanders through the city streets was a great skeleton to structure our stories around whilst still having plenty of awesome performance footage from the band’s gig at Gorilla in Manchester.”

Following a busy summer of festival appearances across the UK and Europe last year, the band recently wrapped up their 2023 UK headline tour dates and this week kick off their Spring 2023 ‘Uncertain Joys’ EU album tour dates, with all German dates sold out and remaining tickets elsewhere on sale now (see below for full listings).

The Subways’ fifth album Uncertain Joys was recorded and produced by front man and producer in his own right Billy Lunn, mixed by the Grammy Award-winning Adrian Bushby (Muse, Foo Fighters, Everything Everything), and mastered by Katie Tavini (Mykki Blanco, Arlo Parks, Nadine Shah).

Album singles ‘Black Wax’, ‘Love Waiting on You’, ‘You Kill My Cool’, and ‘Fight’ have so far garnered press support from The Independent, NME, Classic Rock Magazine, FLOOD Magazine, CLASH, Guitar Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, guitar.com, Gay Times, The Irish News and more, with international radio support from Steve Lamacq at BBC 6music, John Kennedy at Radio X, Jasper Leijdens at KINK, and KEXP, amongst others.
