Deacon Blue announce a tour edition of ‘The Great Western Road’ album, which is preceded today, 28th Aug, with new single ‘Much Too Close To Love’. The album is released on CD on 19th September – the first date of the tour – through Cooking Vinyl. ‘The Great Western Road Tour Edition’ comes with 5 bonus tracks, new liner notes by Ricky Ross and an expanded booklet. This edition is released in tribute to founder member Jim Prime.
Ricky Ross said, “This an expanded version of ‘TGWR’. It includes three songs we cut at Rockfield in October ’24 and a couple of songs that never quite made it in time for that session. We thought it would be good to bring all these tracks together as they all come from the same writing period and often hold similar themes (musically and lyrically).
“It’s also a chance for us to pay tribute to our great companion, Jim Prime, who passed away in June this year. His playing is a huge part of these songs and his own song, ‘Connie and Sam’ was a strong contender to make the final cut, but can now be heard on this collection”.
Of the new single ‘Much Too Close To Love’, Ricky added, “This is a song that arrived a bit too late. We were working on the demo up to the recording of the album and we never got round to seeing it as a possible album contender. It could have sat around waiting for a home, but we felt that might be a long time yet!”
The band play 15 arena shows across the UK & Eire, kicking off in Liverpool on 19 September, the date that the new album is made available, and they play Wembley Arena for the first time since 1990, and finish with two hometown shows at the Glasgow Hydro on 10 and 11 October.
