Ahead of their self-titled debut EP landing tomorrow (June 7th) on So Young Records, Cork five-piece Cardinals share the record’s opener today in “Twist and Turn”. A song that builds and builds on warm major chords and looping melodies, it is already proving a live favourite.

Euan Manning had the following to say about their latest:

“To me Twist and Turn is a song about how writing has become a highly therapeutic practice for us all. It’s got some poppy melodies and a danceable backbeat, the lyrics though, they’re all about grief. I wanted to have a song where the tambourine is the main instrument.”

And on tomorrow’s debut EP: “It’s a collection of songs that were written when we were living and playing in Cork City. It’s pop music at its core, personal, youthful, and, if you can see past the chaos and noise it’s extremely warm. There’s a narrative if you’ve got the heart to look for it. It’s our first EP and we’re looking forward to it being out there for everyone to hear.”

The EP will be released on limited edition 12″ Cream vinyl.

In addition, there will be a Rough Trade exclusive edition which will include both the vinyl and a lyric booklet.

Following a filmed performance last year for Other Voices in their homeland, and the enviable support of Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten, who called them “one of my favourite new bands” during an interview with BBC Radio 1, the band also completed their first UK & Irish headline tour last month to significant plauditry.

The band play an EP launch show at The Kiln in Cork this Saturday, 8th June. They also play the sold out celebration of So Young’s 50th issue at The George Tavern on Wednesday, 12th June alongside mary in the junkyard, Lime Garden and more in London.

Further live dates will be announced in due course.
