Multi-talented, multi-faceted independent rock artist and wizard of fuzz Mike Ross releases another track from his rock-charged, 12-track album ‘Third Eye Open’ (due out on 28th April 2023). While some may explore ‘beautiful minds’, Mike looks to the ‘Ugly Brain’ with more edge, honesty and impact.
‘Ugly Brain’ is performed by Mike Ross (Guitar & Vocal); Derek Randall (Bass) and Darren Lee (Drums).
Mike describes the track, with trademark flair, as “a leering and lugubrious barnstormer of a tune with lyrics that bemoan the duplicitous behaviour of ‘so-called’ friends and a super tight, locked down mid-tempo guitar boogie groove that the Young brothers would be proud of.”

Opening with drums and a wicked guitar hook and Mike’s sharp, flint-edged rock vocals, the song unfolds showing his skill with sound, structure and smart as a whip lyric in both verses and choruses, along with a storming crescendo of a guitar solo
Blues Matters called this track’s parent album Third Eye Open’ “A full throttle no holds barred musical extravaganza” whilst Powerplay Magazine awarded the album 9/10, proclaiming, “It’s the hard-hitting songs… that really make this album an essential purchase.”
“Well, this is stunning,” said Fireworks Magazine, “Mike Ross seems to dance to his own tune and that allows him to add twists, turns and a dirty glitter ball too. ‘Third Eye Open’; seventh heaven achieved.”
“After the Uber authentic early 70’s’ feel of the Clovis 2 album,” Mike reflects, ” I really wanted a more modern, punchy sound for this record. ‘Third Eye Open’ is a real bone-shaker of a record: the fattest, nastiest, chunkiest thing I’ve ever done!

“There’s definitely been a feeling of coming ‘full circle’ on this album, bringing all my influences and material bang up to date and the final 12 track behemoth of a record is hands down the biggest, most cohesive and meaningful thing I’ve ever put out.”
