BONE-IDLE are back with the epic, grunge-infused new track “Liquorice”.
Wrought with angst and twisted with sprawling Smashing Pumpkins-esque arrangements, the Reading band deliver an expansive rock cut destined to corkscrew into your consciousness.
Knotted with shadowy, anxiety-riddled lyricism courtesy of frontman Braidan Casey, “Liquorice” is a track born from the weight of the world bearing down and an effusive reaction to its pressures. As Casey explains:
“Liquorice is a song or actually more of a letter to all the things I can’t deal with and have little patience for. It’s like stubbing your toe and wanting to beat the life out of the side of your bed, or slow walkers on a high street when you need to catch a train. It’s about all the annoying little things in life that infuriate me but the anger is always coming from something more complicated. Some people and things aren’t the way I’d like them to be, this song just reflects on my difficulty to accept that they never will be.”
Recorded with producer Michael Smith, “Liquorice” simmers with a volcanic energy that threatens to erupt at any moment. From its rumbling subterranean basslines to its arcing, comet-like guitar breaks; Bone-Idle’s first release of 2026 is a powerful return and strident next step forward from a band ready to blow-up big time.
Born out of a no-nonsense shove from a parent to quit being lazy, Bone-Idle was formed with equal parts gritty determination and restless hope. Drawing inspiration from artists like The Smashing Pumpkins, The Amazons, and Sam Fender, they bring a modern edge to classic indie rock, through their atmospheric hooks and sharp lyrics.
Releasing their debut single “Sunburn Cider” in 2023, the band have been amassing fans ever since through high octane live performances and a steady succession of single releases and Debut EP ‘Superficial’. Catching the attention of media tastemakers like BBC Introducing Oxfordshire & Berkshire, in 2025 the band clocked over 20,000 streams and counting.
With a number of radio plays under their belt and a best breakthrough artist award from Radio Wigwam, the station awarded them with a recording session for their new single “Liquorice”.
EBased in Reading UK, Bone-Idle are Braidan Casey (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Alfie Cook (lead Guitar and Keys), and Jake Finkel (Bass Guitar).
