Headed by brothers, Marty and Matt Bohannon, Chattanooga Tennessee’s the Bohannons are one of America’a undiscovered musical treasures. A massively under appreciated band that has been doing it their way for 20+ years. Coming off of 2023’s spectacular Night Construction, the Bohannon brothers decided to try something different : They split up for a minute. They have independently recorded solo albums that will be released on the same day, February 28th.
I know these guys and if there were ever true brothers in this world, Matt and Marty Bohannon is them. Being around the red headed brothers is always full of the good stuff that life is made of when it’s in the giving mood. They’re both laid back and soft spoken (until they get on stage). But, there is a sense of something deeper going on with the brothers. As if they are both on the third leg of a search for something together and separate at the same time. It’s a ring or a flag or an explanation of The Bible or the Universe or just one clear, concise picture of how it got here and where it goes from here and we’re right back to hell I just don’t know anymore. We can all relate to that.
You can feel the love and deep understanding each brother has for the other. It’s funny, I’ve noticed that when they are in the same room, they don’t talk to each other much. But they look at each other at times as if they already know what the other is thinking. No spoken words necessary. They hug each other when they say goodbye. They hug everybody else, too. Go into their bar in Chattanooga, TN, The Cherry Street Tavern and get you a beer and a hug and listen to the good stuff in one of the best sounding rock n’ roll rooms in the southeast.
If you’ve ever asked yourself, from where does the magic of the Bohannons come? Who’s carrying most of the weight in this incredible enduring band that hardly anyone seems to know about? Is it Matt? Is it Marty? With the arrival of their solo albums, Matt Bo’s Go Back To Your Roots and Marty Bo’s A Scar Is Born, we have a clear answer. It’s each of them. And it’s both of them. Each brother shines in his own brilliant way on their respective solo albums, but also in the most unmistakable and indelible way. The Bohannon way. ~ Wes McDonald, Cornelius Chapel Records
