Albert Hammond’s words and music flow through more than half a century of modern popular music. From his earliest hits “It Never Rains in Southern California” and “The Free Electric Band” to his songwriting collaborations on classics such as “One Moment In Time” (Whitney Houston), “I Don’t Wanna Lose You” (TinaTurner), “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” (Starship), “The Air That I Breathe” (The Hollies) and “Creep” (Radiohead), his presence and influence reverberate across
genres and generations.
“Gonna Save The World” is his second single and video now released as earMUSIC announces “Body of Work”, his first new album of original material in almost 20 years to be released on March 1st, 2024, on earMUSIC.
The album was written and recorded between Nashville and Berlin, during a time in which the world changed dramatically for us all. As Albert states it was “One of those moments when you see it’s time to retreat from the world. Monks do it… so do writers… it’s a hunger to connect again to the inner person… the one that has the,wisdom, words and music.”
“Gonna Save The World” is all exotic guitars, a pulsing bassline and Albert’s knowing, not-quite-world-weary voice, spinning images of modern times and everything within our reach to react and have our voices heard, but the true answer is to “talk about peace/sweet and lovely peace.” That’s how we’re gonna save the
world.
“Body of Work” is a career-defining album that defies categorization and lithely interweaves genres, attitudes, and perspectives. From rock to folk to Americana to rhythm and blues to balladry, from resignation to determination to loss to recovery to looking back to seeing hope for the future, Body of Work is Albert drawing on 50 years of expressing the human condition through music. It’s a fully connected and considered vision of the world from the angle of an accomplished artist seeking to make sense of it all from his particular vantage point.
“This is the first step I had to take a while back and the album that I call “Body of Work” is what I discovered about me and all of us once I started here,” muses Albert. “Yeah ….
